Roundabout Renovations

When you come home to find that the floor is breaking,

when the day-week-months are nothing but slow,

then put on your shoes, baby, and let’s go dancing.

It’s only another day if the roof is caving.

There’s no need to flee with your bags in tow

when you come home to find that the floor is breaking.

We’ve got plenty of time to save what needs saving.

We still have days before the concrete sets, so

put on your shoes, baby. Let’s go dancing.

The flowers outside might droop to match those feelings:

when you’re worried about the day the whole thing blows

and you come home to find that the floor is breaking.

The wallpaper’s dull and the drywall’s peeling.

But if you still have time for one last show,

then put on your shoes, baby, let’s go dancing.

There’s a new house out there, but it’s just as plaguing.

A different set of repairs from the ones we already know.

So, when you come home to find that the floor is breaking—

put on your shoes, baby, and let’s go dancing.
